SYNOPSIS:  314 pages. When Jake Justus and his beauteous wife Helene arrive in New York for a vacation, very strange things are likely to happen. And do happen. Especially when Jake spends many mysterious hours locked in his room, and Helene finally sends an SOS to John J Malone. The impact of this trio on Manhattan is terrific. The highlights are, briefly: A decapitated bride who nevertheless sends cheery postcards from Niagara Falls; an embezzling lawyer who wants Malone to prove that the bride is innocent of her own murder; and, an escort bureau with a profitable sideline in blackmail; and, finally, a disappearing bridegroom with an inexplicable yen for the Staten Island ferry.
