SYNOPSIS:  243 pages. He enlisted in the army, he was a middle-aged, quiet-spoken businessman who had earned a fortune. He bought and sold slaves as a business man. This is the story of a man without formal or military training, who rose from a private in the Confederate army to a Lieutenant General of Cavalry. He had a gift for strategy and whose instinctive perception of the importance of care, feeding and supply of men and horses. After the war he was elected head of the Ku Klux Klan.

Format: Hardback. No dust jacket. NOT an EX LIB.

Condition: Volume in Very Good condition. Tan cloth boards with dark brown lettering. Boards have very minor signs of wear. Owner's name written in the "Stolen from....blah blah blah" format on inside front cover in large blue marker. Inner pages clear, bright, and free of
markings, tears, or flaws. May have an occasional turndown corner crease. Paper cover over front and back hinge cracked but webbing intact, and nice, square, and solid overall. Illustrated with black and white prints, photos, maps, and facsimile documents. Photos illustrate condition of overall volume.
